Has It Really Been 10 Years? Compared To Todays Music This Song Sounds Even Better!

“Hey Ya” is the true meaning of life.”

Back then we all got tired of “Hey Ya” in no time at all. It was being played everywhere and became so popular that there was simply no escaping this. But when it first originally came out a few months prior we all played it to the death and thought It was the coolest thing around, because it was so much of an unusual tune, especially for such a “real” hip hop group like Outkast (used to be, before thy became awesome). But now ten years down the road, it came up playing on my iTunes – and in my defense – i don’t listen to radio or watch TV at all (must be playing there all the time) – it was such an awesome, positive, fun-filled song in such radical contrast to todays moody and heavy, thought filled songs, that all try to sound arty and end up sounding so deprived of life. I guess that’s why Daft Punks song was so successful last summer – it was sheer fun and the same goes for “Hey Ya” ( x 100). It’s such a ridiculously simple (music and chord wise) song that does not try to be more than it is – sheer fun. Now that’s what i call grown up!

“Shake it, shake shake shake, shake it like a Polaroid picture!!” …maybe retro hipster kids know what i’m talking about with their old cameras… even though you’re not supposed to shake a Polaroid ;)

Silky Smooth Neo-Retro-Soul By IAMNOBODI: Try Me (Ft. Ego Ella May).

head bopping hip hop

Germans call the art of chilled spliffing “quarzen”(among a million other things). Hard to pronounce but the sound of it hits it dead on. Hipsters worldwide, assimilate this into your vocabularies, and check out this new tune by IAMNOBODI. It’ll have you slow head bopping like the late 90ies Madlib tunes did, with an overly smooth touch of retro-neo-soul. Groove digger this one is for you. Brought to you by none other than Jakarta records who seem to hold the crown in this game at the moment.

Cookin Soul gives 2Pac a much deserved remix for “Old School”

giphy

In the last couple of years, while the hip hop retro age was running in full effect, i kind of got bored of hearing biggie and 2pac tunes being played everywhere, and seeing them on various t-shirts at urban outfitters for sarcastic hipsters to wear, just gave it that final no go. But every once in a while their is that one tune that sounds so right and seriously when have cooking Soul ever done anything cheesy? So here is a 2pac tune that sounds – je ne sais quoi – i guess “fresh”.
