Drake vs Massive Attack “Forever”

Except for the aweful movie-preview voice which says “Dj Doctor Dawe” before the song drops, and the horrendous title “House Forever”which derrives from the mashup tradition of splicing the origianl artists or titles together for the versions titel, this mashup is a match made in heaven. Don’t even like Drake but this version uplifts this entire track, and thats what a good version is supposed to do. Mellow tune, courtesy of the massive Attack instumental. Not really made for playing it out loud and the Eminem part is somehow annoying but the hook and the Instr really sound good together.

A new Common track is upon us, prod by K West and additional bedroom vocals by John Legend, who uses an interpolation of all time favourite Terence Trent D’arby – who was originally produced and rec in munich. Check out this tune and hats off to Common who, by being true to what he is doing, manages to stay his course and thus have recognition from all crowds and scenes. One of the few hip hoppers…

I hate the term but this truly is black music – thats what the Billy Holiday painting is supposed to indicate. Enjoy

Super Cat got me into Dancehall

Dont get scared off by the album cover.

I rememeber buying this album at a 2nd hand store a reeeeaaaal looong time ago. We are talking 91 or so and ever since i was hooked on Dancehall. Long before the days of Sean Paul there was another artist who sounded just like him or vice versa and the 3 albums i have of this man sound sweet today as they did upon first hearing them. A friend of mine from J.A. told me that all Indian Rastas sounded like him they had the same kind of delivery and style (by indian i mean as in Sanskrit or Bollywood). Some of the few positive by-products of the Commonwealth. This guy is outstanding – to me – and i wish to share him with you. I don’t know what he is doing these days or what he is up to, but w/o him all this Sean Paul/ Reggae mania would have never happened. Enjoy these fine tunes – next week i’ll introduce you to another one of his albums. Jah run things. lol

Chromemusic presents Mayer Hawthorne – short recap w pics

It worked out fine just the way we figured. A nice show by one of the most promising new acts in a small cib to have a REAL live venue – you could literally pass your drinks to the band and to quote Mayer: “What a strange arrangement”, but the guys loved it, due to the sticky icky, the girls who took such wonderful care of them and of course the live, live audience that showed up on this holiday and amde it a night to remember. The thank-yous & praises were flooding facbook the day after. Here are some of the few pics that we have received and nice re-edit of “Maybe so, Maybe no” by our buddy King Most that skillfully incorporates Kanye West Vocals into the Mix.
