This Saturday you need to tie your dancing shoes cause we are throwing a brand new chrome music party @ the UAMO Art Festival, like we did in previous years and it always went down a storm. Its not a YUM YUM party this year, even though the location is amazing, its still not big enough to host a YUM YUM party, so we decided to make it a chrome music party cause we wanted to play at the Art Fest and in those spectacular rooms. Think of an old laboratory, with a mad scientist and what not. I mean we literally found pills, test tubes, chemicals and other weird stuff, just lying around in that old abandoned factory. Its like they left that place in a hurry (meth lab?).
Music will be the sounds we are known for and the sounds you get to hear on our latest YUM YUM mixtape “the Dude”, so nothings changed just the name of the party! Djs will be chrome, not:fx & d-nice on the 1st floor and our buddies danny & taran from our jazzy & soulful partner musicblog bklyn hosting the 2nd floor. Make sure to show up early, this will be a massive blast and we ll make sure to nice up the dance!
Rsvp on facebook if you want to (anybody still using facebook actively?) or just show up
We will give out a few tickets in our newest Newsletter tomorrow. So sign up and we’ll promise to bother you only once a month to let you know what parties we are throwing and when. PS new YUM YUM Mixtape will be online this Friday as well, so look out weekend here we come. Make sure to show up early, will be a huge night.
Ps Duh! Its called blogger party bc Floor 1 is run by the chrome music djs and Floor 2 is run by the bklyn crew. Get it?
Introducing Childish Gambino would be very late, but although there is this thing called internet, there is almost no one in germany that plays this guys music, writes about it or even knows about him. There are certain reasons for that: # 1 his music is a bit hard to grasp at first, cause its something that me and my brother started calling ironic music some time ago, and its not even ironic its just that everything else is so bad that it feels like irony (when you are) making good music and being on point, when the biggest shit is david guetta. There is an undeniable certain pop culture zeitgeist about all of this and CGs music, probably derived from the modern internet lingo and modern well written faced-paced tv shows and the way the web rewired our brains. Even his name derrives from the online Wu-Tang Clanname generator . Trying to further describe his music would end up being just another chain of dreadful & meaningless adjectives. Let me just say its very post-hipster (lol).
Reason # 2 is there is a langual barrier, no matter how big the internet penetration is these days (there is a huge difference between written and spoken language), to grasp that humour and wordplay, and if you get it you might call it white boyish cause you have been conditioned for too long with “real” hiphop and the stereotype of how its supposed to sound. reason # 3 – childish gambino is donald glover, a witty and famous US comedian & script writer that plays Troy on Community, one of the funniest tv shows in recent years. The loveable characters Troy & Abed on this show have solely been responsible for a few net memes and a couple of über hilarious scenes. These are some highlights from season 1 (2009).
All that adds up to donald glover being a prominent person in the public eye which puts him more in the focus than the next guy doing the same music which even if a lot of people will disagree needs to be said when introducing him to an audience that has never heard of either him or his tv shows. Exceptionally, donald has for the last few years been constantly releasing his music online for free while staying busy playing Troy on Community or even receiving awards as the scriptwriter for (my former personal favourite) the Daily Show or for 30 rock, another one of these new fast paced comedy shows, that is not being aired over here or has even the slightest chance of being funny once its translated (lucky you in the Uk & Scandinavia). Ps sometimes i even play this hilarious song that he wrote for 30 rock at some ridiculous parties as a little break: Werewolf Barmitzvah (spooky, scary).
I guess all these reasons sum up why his music is not as talked about as it is in any english speaking country. Havent seen a clue of him on the french & italian blogs either. His first official Album “Camp” is about to drop and to the rest of the webs he is the talk of the town. The man can actually sing, besides having a ridiculous wordplay (i mean it) and you just have fun when listening to his tracks. Now let me say something which i say very rarely, this is actually a rapper that i do listen to, and i listen to his lyrics closely. This some positive stuff right here and to quote one of his lines its “so insane its an enemy of Batman”.
So let me sum it up for you in a few categories: the many remixes, his previous Eps & Lps as free downloads, a few of my favourite tunes, collabos and his most recent music which is now being officially released through Glassnote records, who are also responsible for Mumford & Sons, the Temper Trap, the 2nd Phoenix Lp and a few more which you probably know. So you see, for a hiphop artist, even label wise he is on some other ish. Enjoy

Since you know me and know that i only post stuff that i thoroughly like, if you want the latest on CG you better head over to his website (at end of post) or over to hypem, cause there seems to be a new tune or remix out every single day.
Stumbled across the internet this morning and found a new video of Baby Sol. Enjoy this second uncoupling of her first EP ‘Before I Begin’ released earlier this year. Also don’t miss to support her and listen to the whole album on iTunes.
Straight outta Compton comes J. Boog with his awaited debut “Backyard Boogie“, and his Hawaiian sounding reggae album is full of laid back tunes, full of mellow crooners that are a bit too sweet for the average european flavour and this time of year, but nonetheless they fit the pacific feel and will do just to the island state of mind . I have a certain weakness for Samoan & Hawaiian reggae music, since thats pretty much the only online radio (or radio in general) i listen to. Two of my favourites:
