Door #19: Sonnengruss – Talking In Your Sleep

Pretty boy Toby scores with each track he releases. This one is a co-op/feature with Kids X-factor runner up Richard Istel who has a mind-blowing voice for a now 18y old fella. The original is one of my favourite 80’s tracks so i was at first skeptical, but anything that is positive, danceable with a good vibe is a score in my book when everything is systematically narcissistic, aggressive and pretentious if measure msuic by todays overhyped mainstream. The tracks Sonnengruss pumps out are positive, funky, get the crowd hype and the younger generation seem to completely dig it in his sets.

Sonnengruss, Toby had somewhat of a tragic story with many of his releases. Scoring a Nr 1 at the then still relevant Hypem Charts, before it became a farce, the song suffered from Universal musics inability to pump the track out within a week or two (took em 3 months w/o any promotion) and hurt the track severely. Same goes for his EP and now this track, that came out early this year, performed well on Spotify (over 1 Mio). But the officially greenlighted track by it’s composers, had a sweet video that (ironically) used the old original music video from 1983, lip-synced to the Sonnengruss Version, with some hilarious 80’s effects. Of course a major label/Vevo controlled the content so the new video couldn’t even be released and thus the promotion felll flat.

Seems like a lot of complaining, when most smaller to middle sized dance acts would be thankful for Sonnengruss play numbers, but Toby has the potential to grow immensely as an act, and he has all it takes, musically, as a dj/producer and as the earnest fun personality he is. And he is still in his early 20’s. Well Sonnengruss had learned from these missteps, Toby & his producer have made an excellent roadmap for 2019. They will work with us, have a great release plan and just had another super successfull songwriting week in Berlin. No more covers, samples and other peoples material – no matter if licensed or not. And this time the entire team supporting him and working for/with Sonnengruss is finally a 100% right. Tried and tested.

Door #18: Temple Haze – Agape (Piano Cover)

Beautiful piece of art by Mr Temple. Classy tribute or cover. I think the original is by Bear’s Den, didn’t bother looking it up, you are supposed to enjoy music not write an essay about it. This man is a composer, singer and producer and you can literally feel it in everythig he does. There is a certain depth to his art tht’s making the world brighter, one piece at a time.

Sonnengruss & Richard Istel “Talking In Your Sleep” (Savage 80’s Cover – Power Level 9000!)

Freaking awesome. My guys Sonnengruss aka Tobi & Dominique with their buddy Richard, recorded this monster of a fun pop song. I had it on repeat and their video wins the 80’s nostalgia award I was also involved into the fun creation to a minimini – mal degree, but them guys had too much fun doing it. So hooray, best Sonnengruss release so far and Richard Istels vocals actually sound like he is made for that kind of big tunes. And the video is Awesome AF.

I don’t know if it’s just my 80’s fanboy-ism but i have been missing power anthems, everything is sad and dragging these days or totally degenrated voyeurism, but this one is postive all the way through, and is sure to land on every party playlist, form the lazy ones to the bog rooms. Love it! Put it on and see how often you will have it on repeat ;)

Spotify:

Soundclown Link for Hypem. I heard some people out there are still using Soundclown. Must be the Russian Bots the FBI is talking about, but wait the FBI was caught lying about it… confused…

Umbrella (Cover) by Alxxa

Get with alxxa’s Umbrella cover, a very unusual sounding but zeitgeisty beat and production. Love how it has that seductive vast emptiness and sparse instrumentation, clouding it up with only a running synth melody, the perfectly placed effects and her brilliant clear vocals. Of course it helps that everyone knows each word of the track, but undeniably one of the best efforts of a newcomer i have heard this month. The future must be bright for alxxa.

ps promised to share this 10 days ago, but couldn’t keep up with the many new submissions after the summer. Apologies to alxxa ;)

Ed Sheeran – “Drunk in Love” (Dominique Jardin Remix). A Star In the Making. FREE DL

Dominique is already a star in the making. Lady is playing 90+ gigs a year for a respectable fee, playing the cool festivals and what not, partying with the big boys and i mean the BIG names, and she is the new global Red Bull EDM festival correspondent! So she is probably what has been missing on the EDM, Deep House, Electronic side of things, a respected and fun female dj who is not the defender of a cultural elite, exclusively deejaying in some halftime hip little bar in kreuzberg. She is cut out for the big stage, where girls belong as much as guys do. It’s just funny that is always has to be an Austrian who does it first in Europe for the rest to follow, and she is of course from Vienna…

I saw a few gigs of her and not even Avicii started at that level, where she already is. She is also a brand ambassador for Mercedes, as in Mercedes Benz, not Mercedes, my chilean house keeper, the more surprising it is that this is her first tune… ever… “she just didn’t feel the time was right.” Even though it’s a remix, you pretty much see where she is going with this. I call that focus.

And whats even more surprising is that she plays the cool side of things, she sent me one of her sets and she lives, although big room, right on the Dillon Francis side of things. and her first track is proof of that. Ed Sheeran took my favourite Beyonce song and turned it into an acoustic ballad, Dominique took Eds cover and turned it into a festival monster, with all the right ingredients, future bass, a trancy build up and whatnot. I had this on repeat, and i wouldn’t even call this EDM, but i also heard what else she had in store – and it’s gonna be good. Some big fat US cat is gonna come around and hijack the dame before any of us even knows what has happened and who she is. And she is gonna blow up stateside. If my label was into that kind of music i’d sign her right away, but so she is gonna do 2 remixes for me and i am super fine with that, bc the first one already came out a monster.

ps. i had never heard of her before we started chatting 2 months ago. shame on me! check out her website
