Door #10: Funk Playlist by Chrome Musics own Dominique

Happy Monday with a Funk Playlist by Chrome Musics own Dominique

Adventcalendar #10. A personal Funk favourites Playlist by Dominique, who is one of our producers and captains onboard the Chrome Music Label. We met him years ago through another project and we instantly clicked with his vibe and humour, the guys got plenty, as the picture carefully suggests. But alas, he is also a proper church educated musician and pianist, who lives, loves and worships the Funk side of music, no matter what music he produces or works on (currently Reece Lemonius, whom i introduced a few days ago). Coming from a release-wise electronic oriented background he literally likes it all, but his roots, if ever asked, will always be what he packed into this playlist. His Funk bag of goodies.

Coming from the rare groove vinyl collectors era, most of the tracks probably aren’t surprising to me, or others – especially considering the deep knowledge and dedication we put into the musical history. But, and this is a BIG but, you cannot possibly deny the quality of these tracks, and being in his mid to late 20’s i think it’s worth mentioning that this millennial generation of his was brainwashed into different (imho more plastic sounding) music. So here’s a personal applause for gathering such a great collection. Much appreciated Domi!

Erica by Zalon

Sweet Soul Music.

This is what they had to say about their single:

Zalon, the main backing artist and collaborator with Amy Winehouse just has released his Album and first single ‘Erica’ – to a sold out gig in London. Erica is about a woman who is untrustworthy whose giving Zalon the run around but she should just be true and honest with herself.

classic Soul: Roy Ayres Ubiquity – Searching

This tune woke me up this morning, and it made me remember the days when these old time tunes where on heavy rotation at my house and when i used to play them at night. Great lovely tune, this goes out to all my searching friends, buddies and human compadres. Stop searching, its all right here, right now. Enjoy this tune

Otis Redding – Try a little Tenderness (the original to Jigga & Kanyes Otis single)

While everyone is still knocking Jay-z & Kanye for how bad their, this weeks released, album “The Throne” is for a list of various reasons – here is one that Chuck D brought fwd – i still cant get over how awesome their sample for their lead single “Otis” is. Not a song to dance to, even though people go mental when you play it, doesnt look anything like dancing though, i think its brave enough and in the vein of the old fashioned hip hop to use a sample as soulful as this for a heavily promoted hiphop track, thats meant to go chartland and – no i dont care what they are saying and how much they are bragging about stuff. i stopped paying attention to hip hop vocals a long time ago. I picked better Mantras for me, no but THE SAMPLE is AWESOME. uhmm… i mean this SONG is AWESOME!
