Soundcloud Edit Masters # 1: Leftside Wobble

Supposed to be a new segment on the blog, where i introduce a few edit masters that have caught my attention while surfing Soundcloud, which gives a perfect opportunity to a few folks like this man here to showcase all the edits, remixes and versions they have made of well known tracks and tracks which have literally been begging for a retreat. Leftside Wobble is a great one to start with a wide selection of necceassry retreats and fixes of soulful, disco, loft tunes, that you have all heard before. His Acid & House refixes lose me a bit, but thats just me. Here is a selection of tunes, that i really dig of his long list on Soundcloud.

Fitz & the Tantrums

Introducing…. Fitz & the Tantrums, although the album “Pick up the pieces” came out last summer and the Ep is even from way back in 2009. Its worth re-introducing this somewhat Motown instumented band, that reminds me, songstructure & hook wise, more of some 80ies bands that i simply cant name no more, but i know that Fitz’ swinging curl looks a lot like 80ies band ABC’s frontman Martin Fry, and the whole lot of them sure have that Blues Brothers look. In a post Mark Ronson world these songs fit right in with the modern day whiteboy soul thats rejecting todays so called soul offerings and looking for something with a more original feel – and this is where Fitz & the Tantrums come in, they sound authentic and thats why we dig them. Here are the tunes we recommend.

A nice & soulful retro jam, remixed and edited to make Charles Wrights classic “Express yourself” into something thats just right for a warm summers dance (next to a cold beer on the beach)… produced by good friend & YUM YUM colleague Paul from London.

Have fun with this gem

Movin down the line – Raphael Saadiq

Here are 2 track from his brandnew album ” Stone Rollin”. Still sticking with the 6oies vibe he started on his previous album, this one sounds to me like the consequence of a new found sound that Mr Saadiq seems to prefer. This one is not really up my alley at first glance, but i know that the best songs and albums have to grow on you and we have a lot of Saadiq fans, just like myself, that have a lot of patience with RS after all the beutiful music he has deliverd throughout the years and we have been eagerly waiting for this one. Check it out for yourself via itunes

EDIT ***And just after having these two tunes on repeat for some 20 minutes i can assure you, these songs DO grow on you. Very mature, Mr RS!
