Pure Summer Vibes! “Apple of My Eye” by Jesse Whitney

Here is a friend of mine whom i met on Zoom (what a sad world that is), who then told me he was doing music while we talked about lizards, UFOs, conspiracies and Wikileaks and stuff…
Well send it he did! He made a super, uber-sweet beach, reggae, folky songwriter tune and it’s *****ing mindblowingly lovely! Play it at all summer, play at your garden party, play it in your barnhouse, play it on your balcony with your loved one! A proper 100% YUM YUM top tune, for the late night hours on the beach… Really wants me make a new Mixtape!
Proper music, not just some soundbytes to torture your brains memory center (actually lol’ed while writing this). Jesse is straight out of Melbourne, and spent some time in Berlin, where the hook-up happened, and although i am officially on team Sidney, simply bc my good friend Mat McHugh is from there, i should be biased (i am)  but this tune is some sweet, sweet summer wine. Check out “Apple of my Eye”!

ps. usually i would have posted a sunny beach pic like this, but Jesse has an unusally good so i had to repost it!
Jesse Whitney on Spotify . His Spotify profile pic says it all! Great guy!

Door #5 INTRODUCING : APSLEY & Free DL of “Home”

This is J Apsley. An incredible musician in my book.

I met this guy, during a turbulent time in my history when my then-company was doing another IT based test project instead of focussing on a set, defined goal. I liked the conversations with Jacob a lot, since he is one of the “good guys” and an artist, musician through and through. Sometimes it’s easier to tell from a distance, and he might not even realize it himself. We released a couple of songs, when his life was changing and the set goals he had weren’t fundamentally changing but rather taking shape. And that’s just an evolutionary step that is normal but it shows and reflects in his older music. Nothing to ever be ashamed of, other blogs have compared some of his songs to the 1975 and whatnot.. but the new material is sooooo much better and we are just 2 songs in.

But  writing about J would be unfair to his wife R – because Apsley, which was originally a solo artist, is now the two of them, and rightfully so, not only since they share the same last name, but bc they compliment each other musically/vocally so well that it is just a human ASMR like pleasurable experience for any urgent sonic remedies.

So this here was the last tune that was done with the old state of mind, but it is already the both of them and you can just hear why the two of them are meant for each other, not only in music but also in life. Grab your Free Dl of Home, a chill hip hop instrumental with a soul sample and the incredible soothing vocals of J + R Apsley. There is much more to come from Apsley – which now 2 not 1 anymore! Pls remember ;)

Even if this track is still lacking in plays on Spotnik until now, this is the kind of quality that i can ‘feel’ shining through. Happy to be working with the both of them… and somehow we became friends w/o ever meeting each other. Life is strange sometimes but there is a higher love at work,  at all times.

Obadiah Parker – Hey Ya (Outkast Cover remixed by Koni)

giphy

About time someone remixed or mashed up Obadiah Parkers old cover of Outkasts ueber anthem. The biggest, most played, most sold song of the 2000’s is Hey Ya and no remix can take that away from the magic of that simple, simple stupid song that we all love so much – and at times even hated, just because it was so overplayed that you couldn’t spend 5 min without hearing it. After all that i still love “Hey ya” and i actually had 2 copies of it on vinyl, not only for mixing it back and forth, in a pre Traktor/Serato world, but also as a backup, because i simply played it so often that one eventually had to go sooner or later. Here is a really good Tropical Take on it and i sure wish it will be included on the next TROPICAL SESSIONS Compilation!

Iron & Wine and Ben Bridwell – This Must Be The Place

Iron & Wine and Ben Bridwell chromemusic

Oh wow jipieeh yeah! Band of Horses AND Iron & Wine are doing a collaborative album called “Sing Into My Mouth”. And to tell it in their words “its a loving homage to 12 songs that have had indelible influence on both of its creators”. In my words: Simply beautiful like all of their music. Wow jipieeh yeah!  Release date is 17th of July and the perfect delayed birthday gift for myself :)
