REAL Contemporary Pop Music : Wisdom Talk by Mushroom People

I came across these guys over a month ago, pretty much around the same time, when i was getting an absolute overkill of all the future bass tracks, using the very same drop over and over again. You know that silly synth based drop that is just super annoying by now and that everybody used this and last year. No innovation at all, and not even surprising to grannies anymore.

I was wondering when the first act would come around who’d incorporate that style more playful and just use it more as a musical element as songwriters and real musicians are supposed to do. Along came Mushroom People who, judging from their Name, i almost didn’t listen to as i was expecting some kind of Trance and Psychadelic sounds, but boy was is surprised and literally caught off guard. Fell in love with it while playing this tune over and over and over…

Agreed the singer might have a bit of a german accent, but doesn’t Milky Chance as well? Agreed the song is predictable, but isn’t all of pop music? Agreed it isn’t REAL Future Bass, but THAT’S EXACTLY WHAT I WANTED!

Very much appreciated and much needed pop music by some very sweet folks. Here is a bit of their self info: “You might expect some weird, psyched-out electronica when you hear the name Mushroom People. But instead, you will find contemporary pop music with catchy melodies and synth-driven drops. The two producers and brothers, Dean & Dustin were joined by singer/songwriter Lenny who used to regularly play pub gigs in Ireland. They found together at a local concert venue in Germany and decided to join forces. While continuously working on original content, Mushroom People also entered the world of remixing and has released official remixes of well established artists such as NoMBe and VALNTN.”

Follow Mushroom people. Ps they are releasing also a brilliant follow up single that i already got to hear.

Wake Up by Loud Forest

The first song of Loud Forest i have come across and they impress at first listen! This is what they wrote about the tune and i couldn’t agree more

“This song is about loving someone who is super independent. You love them, you have all the feelings of intense love, but they are always out there, at arms length, just beyond your reach…so it feels like a dream…so I say to myself “you’re imagining this, it’s a dream you’ll forget, wake up it’s over”. Because it feels like a love affair with all the emotions and feelings, but one that is ever so slightly unreal because that independent person is never totally there within reach. It’s kind of like “pinch me, is this real?” But not because it’s too good to be true, but because it’s a love, a distant love that does kind of feel like it’s not real.”

My Body by Saunas

Man, i wanna jump in my Trans Am, and go to my prom dance, start a brawl, then have a ball and then hang out with my fellow 80’s reagenauts, Brad & Chad. This has 80’s retro feel and soundtrack written all over it! Solid effort gents! This one is a slow burner though. At first you like it, but then you really like it ;)

This way to the sauna please:::

LAZER BLADES – Heartbreaker

This one goes so deep in the retro feel, that i wonder why there is not a goth in 8bit on the cover. A lot of elements that you will recognize from the early to mid 80’s synth bands and an instrumental that would make any video game or cyber warrior movie proud. Great!

When You Fall In Love (Mastered Version) by BoganVia

This tune really sticks with you, long after you stopped playing it. Always the strongest indicator for a strong tune. This one has all the clichés & trademarks of a 80’s synth pop anthem, and it is really that strong imho to be, although fictitious, an 80’s classic. It uses the obvious sounds and techniques flawlessly w/o ever compromising with todays state of the art sounds, mixing methods and that is normally an absolute No Go in my book, bc even if you take a retro or genre based anti stance, you have to adjust to the fact that listening habits changed, devices changed, the mixing of sounds, the effect settings have gone through a major change, and consumption in total has become fundamentally different, as the general attention span decreases by the months. This tune by BoganVia ignores all the above completely, and actually defies my thesis, but surprisingly works better than most other songs (99% i come across), and it transports fun above all else, w/o ever having to make a fool of itself. Ahoy BoganVia, may your star burn bright and long!
