the Cults – debut album “Cults”

Their debut album “Cults” (sorry for the itunes link, LPs not on bandcamp), IMHO, delivered everything the first three songs promised it to be – here is a previous post to their 2010 songs. The Cults has to be the best band of 2010/11 so far and their mixture of aplocalyptic pop, soulful basslines and lofi rock has my media players working hard ever since i first heard them. If you havent heard of them already (what country doesnt have internet?) lets go jump into their music:

The music video to “Abducted” sets the mood and here are a few more of my favourites. One of the nicest tracks (especially when on the road) has to be “Bumper”, it just goes on & on w/o ever getting boring, incredible.

Cults – Bumper

Once again, actual tunes that i am playing, at big room gigs but nobody else is, except your occasional bar djs. This is just too good not to be shared with the entire world. Whats up people, make sure to put this on your tables, decks, sticks, seratos, traktors – whatever you are using. I have been to about 20 different spots this holiday weekend and have not a SINGLE time heard anything by this band, one of the hottest groups in the world right now. Back to my favourites:

One of their best tarcks has to be : You know what i mean

Great Art Blog “Annina.fr” and so much, much more, by one of our very own yum yum cofounders

Fruits from annina roescheisen on Vimeo.

Annina who is one of my dearest friends and YUM YUM founders, (she was there right when it all started and actually was also responsible for a lot of input, for a lot of the styles and a lot of great ideas), who now lives in Paris for a few years has finally started her own blog – www.annina.fr– its about Contemporary & Modern Art, Exhibitions her music and all other things related. Coming from the heart of Paris, Annina is quite personal, honest and from deep within and thats just what a blog is supposed to be, i gave it a look for a few weeks before putting it online, cause i wanted to see if this was an ongoing endeavour, but hey – i am quite hooked, so here you go or voila > check out Anninas page and please make sure to check out her video section. Amazing material! The music posted is quite touching and so you can tell where she is coming from, and how this is a progress in each and every way. Her eyes are wide open – Welcome Cinderella!

If i was to do a music video for any of my music, Annina & her folks would be the only people i would ask. The quality is amazing and there is a definite unique feel to it and that feel is her own self, which she now no longer minds sharing with everyone. Lovely! Have fun with her site! You might learn something… but you will definitely have fun.

PS Please share this website and spread the word. Thank you all!!

W have spent so much time together and here is one of her favourite tunes and a YUM YUM classic (i think we used to listen to the instumental in some long nights). Just because you are who you are, we are reconsidering doing YUM YUM in Paris. Thank you

Lenka – Album Two

Australian singstress Lenka delivered her second album Two (released April 19th) a few weeks ago and i have listened to it occasionally after actually liking the first one quite a lot, but none of the songs would stick in my head. Its feelingwise a summer album, or filled with summer tunes, but not as catchy as the first one or maybe even too catchy – so that its hard to have one particular song remembered (?), but of course thats up to everyone else to decide. Perfect pop music, maybe a bit too perfect. I still like her and i like people that make positive pop music, and thats already worth acknowledging and after 2 months i finally figured out which songs i like the most, but check out the entire album “Lenka: Two“yourself. PS i think this lady has a lot of talent which should be paired with the best producers out there, to still make positive pop music, but give the music more deepness, so that her vocals can unfold even more. and make the music more interesting, cause i think thats what it is in the end. Thats at least what i want to see, at little edgy material paired with her great vocal talents. Pls surprise me with Three.

Cee Lo Green – I don’t care (Buddy Holly cover)

cee lo green – i dont care (buddy holly cover)

I am probably gonna be the only one who is gonna be playing this song at night (already did BTW and it went down great, with loud cheering & a few suspicious looks). This fits right in the YUM YUM sound and you will see this go down, i am promising you right now. So my friends are split in half, black guys & hip hop/ soul aficionados are like “Come back home Lo” and the white guys are like “who cares about Rock’n Roll?” Whatever….  I DON’T CARE, lol

My favourite leaked tune so far, from the upcoming Buddy Holly Tribute album, featuring the likes of Florence & the Machine, Black Keys and about anybody else that has a name right now. Ps check the amazing Black keys cover version of “Dearest”

Metronomy – The Look

A few weeks ago Metronomy released their 3rd Album The English Riviera. Of all songs my personal favourite is The Look. The other song is an older one, but this superb remix by Discodeine is too good to be left out. One of the guys responsible for the remix is Pilooski, a name you should be familiar with, who appears to be one half of Discodeine.
