Foster the People “Torches”

Foster the peoples new album “Torches” has been doing the trick for me for over a week now and i like it better the more i hear it, so i guess its worth a suggestion to you guys. You will definitly hear at least two of these three tunes wherever i play out, but thats just my dj favourites – the rest of the album is packed with great music. Fitz & the Tantrums

Introducing…. Fitz & the Tantrums, although the album “Pick up the pieces” came out last summer and the Ep is even from way back in 2009. Its worth re-introducing this somewhat Motown instumented band, that reminds me, songstructure & hook wise, more of some 80ies bands that i simply cant name no more, but i know that Fitz’ swinging curl looks a lot like 80ies band ABC’s frontman Martin Fry, and the whole lot of them sure have that Blues Brothers look. In a post Mark Ronson world these songs fit right in with the modern day whiteboy soul thats rejecting todays so called soul offerings and looking for something with a more original feel – and this is where Fitz & the Tantrums come in, they sound authentic and thats why we dig them. Here are the tunes we recommend.

Jamie XX’ debut single on Numbers is a state of the art summer production with a catchy steel drum sample, that seems to have become his trademark, ever since the epic rolling in the deep remix. The b side is much moodier and if you go on the Numbers soundcloud page you get to hear it as well, just didnt fit the vibe of our site. Nearer on the other hand works fine with us. Hands Down!! Rolling in the deep – funk bbQ YUM YUM remix

I got so annoyed with the popularity of Adeles track and how overplayed and overremixed (it that even a word) that tune became in no time. But then, Paul played me this when i stopped by in the UK for a tea (not a clichee, i swear).

Seriously…. Hands down, best version of Adeles track, a funk summertime monster, thats creeping up on you and it grows with every listen. Produced by YUM YUMs own Paul, no samples involved in this one. Give it a minute till the bass kicks in and all those little variations give it that serious Soul/Disco stomp. Expect to hear it on friday and actually everywhere else i play, this ones guaranteed to get the dance started on some serious oldschool loft flavour. Heavy funk bassline pushing Adeles song to another plateu, sending all those millions of remixes (except jamie xx + heatwave) to the curve and creating something new. This is my favourite version so far!!!

Lyn Charles – Now I’m Living (Ft. Freeway)

A guy named Scott Sheldon sent us this tune a few weeks ago, maybe Lyn Charles himslef? or one of his compadres? Anyways, sick piano sample, nice horn lick, great chilled out vocal hook and an overall nice vibe to this fine piece of hiphop. Cannot recognize the sample and thats a rarity these days. I came across a lot of good hip hop songs these days. Same goes for rock/pop/indie/folk songs. Somehow anything that doesnt sound like its manufactured sheerly for mass consumption or that tastes too artificial. Its the genral feel that its turning toward live, organic, self made, music.. like Marvin said: “It’s music, pure and simple”. Thank you internets.
