Door #3 : Free Download of “PFOS” by Mat McHugh

Nr 3 on our X-mas Advent Calendar holds a Free Download of one of our favourite releases on our brand new Chrome Music Label. It just came out and still has room and time to grow and shine. The story behind this tune is that the original, which is one of the most beautiful acoustic songs in my collection, has been a long time favourite on our side of life. Remixing or rather re-imagining this tune proved to be tougher than originally anticipated. How would you change anything to the better, if you already think it’s perfect? So i took a diff approach and got inspired by a movie called “the Red Turtle” and took on its dark, menacing but still loving and humane touch. And this is where the animation comes from in the video.

I am really happy with the way PFOS turned out and it’s definitely a track for our monthly Top Tunes selection. Time to bring those back I’d say ;)

Offical Release: Mat McHugh – PFOS (YUM YUM Version)

Mat has always been one of our ChromeMusic favourites going back as long as to the very first Sweet Serenade mixtape, and we felt blessed when we had the chance to work and especially connect with him. He is a special kind of person, you can hear it in everything he does, and by now Mats someone i trust and call a friend.

Only problem is that our tete-a-tete happened a few moons ago and for even many more reasons PFOS and the other ten tracks we did together have been delayed, repacked, and whatnot over and over again… I am super glad that we finally have this one here in our hands, and I am actually proud (you don’t hear me saying that often) of having such a strong track here that does Mats lyrics and deeper underlying intentions just, and actually manages to transform “A pocket full of shells”, as the original was called, into something moody, something else, with a different feel, a completely different mood. Hope you don’t miss our Spotify Link – collect and hooray we finally are back to making YUM YUM Versions, edits, remixes, originals and are releasing them officially.

Of course me referring to a track as strong is subjective, but gladly hearing a tune of your own creation is rather rare …and besides it’s my website so i can say what the EFF i want. Betway recension här

PFOS is a moody monster. Just kidding, not getting high of my own supply here, just dig the vibe and glad to be making music that directly appeals to me… after all the compromises i made to learn while making my steps in the music business. Anyhow i sincerely hope you dig it too and dig the video we did for it.

Seaside Highlife meets The Yum Yum’s “A Pocket Full of Shells” + Live Shows in Germany & Holland

We have finally made a dream come true!

After deejaying and doing edits for a very long time, we (and i mean me, Timo, Tommy & Meskla) finally came up with the idea for a full length Album. We teamed up with our favourite songwriter: Mat McHugh the frontman of the Beautiful Girls, and re-created and re-imagined some of his songs to create something new, an amalgamation of electronic urban sounds with the organic soulful voice of Mat at the centre of it all. And it’s getting a full release later this year, until then we are playing a few gigs live and perfecting the music :) Until then expect a new song every month and the full album and the live shows will be like a YUM YUM Mixtape. Full of Enchantment & Magic!

We had our first song “High Up!” up on the ChromeMusic a few weeks ago, but had to take it down from the blog and from soundcloud etc,  bc it’s getting an official release early September. Well this is another favourite of ours. A very minimal approach to one of Mats most beautiful songs. Enjoy A Pocket Full of Shells.

Hey young world!

We are back babay! The YUM YUM’s & Mat McHugh – [YY:MM]

Dear friends, followers, haters, debaters, jokers, smokers, late night talkers, people who judge on the spot, those who love on the spot and those who feel infinite! It’s been a minute since i put out my own music, besides initially producing Lions Head, but this here’s an affair of the heart! And yes, we are back!
We are called the YUM YUM’s (Djs & producers) consisting of me, Chrome from ChromeMusic, Tand Williams & Meskla both veteran Djs of the YUM YUM parties, hence the name), and this our first own and official release, a collaboration with a long time favourite music maker of ours, Sidney-based Australian singer-songwriter Mat McHugh, from the Beautiful Girls!
“High Up!” is our first official release and there are 11 more songs to come in the form of a full length album in September.  It is is a chilled futuristic late night jam and we sincerely hope you like it!!

The Story behind the music: A match made on our music blog!

I always featured Mat McHugh (matmchughmusic.com), who is one of my favourite singers, on my acoustic mixtape series “Sweet Serenade” and on various posts on ChromeMusic! When i started our label Tanz Dich Glücklich last year, i approached Mat and asked him to remix one of his songs, and to our surprise Mat instantly gave us his entire long slate of releases to pick from (7 albums) !!

Mat put that much trust in us and our idea for the remixes that he didn’t hesitate a minute. But we didn’t want to simply remix it and add a beat to that already wonderful, emotionally packed material. We took Mats beautifully crafted vocals & melodies, filled with positive messages, and transported it into new musical landscapes where we re-produced and re-imagined (almost) everything to emphasize the emotional gravitas of Mats music, which then in return prompted Mat to even re-sing most of the material, leading to mostly original music. Here i would like to thank a few people especially who were involved in the process and helped me maintain the course w/o losing focus! I’d like to point out my partners from the almighty Riverside Studio in Berlin, especially Martin the head and chief of Kling Klong Records, Olli Laib, the mad musician who did productions for people like Alle Farben and figuratively everybody else, my long time buddy M-tech/Pitchben who used to be a very well known ITF hiphop DJ and played alongside A-Trak and the likes back in the day, and very much to my partner and my buddy Dominik Graf who is better known as 1/2 of Lakechild , who i also met through the blog 2 years back. They were all crucial and an essential part and framework in helping paint this bigger picture! Thank you all from the heart. You are all part of this!

It amounted to 12 brand-new songs which are being released as an album this September, also entitled “High Up!”

This organic/online collabo between The YUM YUM’s  & Mat McHugh, grew into a German/ Australian partnership, that is already planning ahead for more releases and preparing its first Germany & Holland tour this September.

#ChromeSelects: Mat McHugh

mat-mchugh_2

Taking it easy today with Mat McHugh’s new album “Waves” that we giddily downloaded for free. Below, we interviewed this avid surfer about pre-meal rituals, the creative process behind the album, and if he can break it down.

1) What artists do you draw on for your influence?

Oh man, that list is too big. I get inspired by creative energy in any form. I can be inspired to write a song by eating a beautiful meal, reading a great book or looking at an amazing building. Humans can do great things and I just want to try and contribute my own creativity in the way I can express it best.

2) What is it like releasing an album independently vs. with a major label?

I’ve always been an independent artist. It’s very important to me to have creative control over all the aspects of my art. It all has to have meaning and everything needs to come from the same motivation. The minute that art feels like a ‘product’ is when I lose interest.

3) Tell us about your creative process behind “Waves.” It’s tough to fit into a genre.

Like all my albums, I make them in my home studio. I play all the instruments and produce all the tracks. I love all aspects of it. I like the songwriting element where you sit at an instrument and come up with harmony and melody and lyrics. I also really love sound design and coming up with sounds that have never existed before. A lot of the things that sounds like synths on the album are actually samples that I have manipulated to become their own thing.

4) The first single, “All I Ever Wanted” takes us through an intense dream. Did this dream reflect real life?

For me, the line between dreaming and ‘real life’ is really blurred. I live between worlds.

5) What’s the collaboration process between you and The Beautiful Girls?

The Beautiful Girls is just another name I release my music under. It’s a different lineup live. More influenced by soul music and digital dancehall. Some records are Mat McHugh and some are TBG but, essentially, they’re all me. https://mostbet-games.net/pk/

6) Could you bust a move like the dancers in “Dancehall Days?”

Oh yeah for sure. Way better hahaha.

7) What do you eat before a performance?

I eat the ice in a single malt scotch whiskey.

8) What do you do to unwind?

I live on the beach so all of my spare time, of which there isn’t much at the moment, is spent there either in water or right beside it.

9) What is your favorite sport to play?

I grew up surfing since I was 5 years old. Before and after school every day of my life. If I had to choose between music and surfing, then surfing wins.
