Samoan Reggae: J. Boog – Backyard Boogie

Straight outta Compton comes J. Boog with his awaited debut “Backyard Boogie“, and his Hawaiian sounding reggae album is full of  laid back tunes, full of mellow crooners that are a bit too sweet for the average european flavour and this time of year, but nonetheless they fit the pacific feel and will do just to the island state of mind . I have a certain weakness for Samoan & Hawaiian reggae music, since thats pretty much the only online radio (or radio in general) i listen to. Two of my favourites:

Download full album: “Jay-Z @ Studio One” mashed up by Soulforce

This albums a free download by the Soulforce crew that dates back to 2007 and it is exactly what the title implies – Jay-zs vocals meet Studio One, but these guys just recently put it online and someone (possibly them?) sent me a message to post it. So, i know a few of our guys like them a good reggae set and some jay-z, no matter how over-remixed (is that a word?) that album is/was. A couple of good versions on here some well known, a bit dated but ÜBERclassic reggae riddims. Here is my favourite one, but i wished the remixes were a bit more vivid and had more breaks or the producer had put more effort on arranging them instead of pure blending. This album was just remixed too often for my ears. Other than that the albums good to go. Anways, forget my opinion: here you go, grab the full download over here.

Them Belly full (but we hungry) – Bob Marley

My music, how have you changed… and how you are changing … the musical formula of praising money, making it your god and giving you the warming illusion of being rich, famous, popular and thus selling you status, instead of uplifting, healing & inspiring music, is becoming obsolete. The purely materialistic mindstate at the end of the industrial age is coming to an halt and is consuming its own self as you can see by our doomed economic systems. Of course you will always have the guy who rather stays asleep in the belly of the beast, giving in to illusion and enjoying his steak inside the matrix, but there is a silent change going on right now and everyone can feel it – but words do not suffice to describe it. Remember that for every soul living like a king on earth someone else has to suffer. Them belly full

Slipping into Darkness vs Get up Stand up

Another one of these great mashups that sounds right in my ears and works very well together. 2 of my all time favourite tunes blended together and they work well. He used PRT’s “Rock this funky joint” which already incorporated the sample of Wars “Slippin into Darkness” and then mixed it with the recently resurfaced Marley voacls that are actually untouchable, but this here works. Enjoy (he also added the Chapelle “Darkness” sample)
