Nr 3 on our X-mas Advent Calendar holds a Free Download of one of our favourite releases on our brand new Chrome Music Label. It just came out and still has room and time to grow and shine. The story behind this tune is that the original, which is one of the most beautiful acoustic songs in my collection, has been a long time favourite on our side of life. Remixing or rather re-imagining this tune proved to be tougher than originally anticipated. How would you change anything to the better, if you already think it’s perfect? So i took a diff approach and got inspired by a movie called “the Red Turtle” and took on its dark, menacing but still loving and humane touch. And this is where the animation comes from in the video.
I am really happy with the way PFOS turned out and it’s definitely a track for our monthly Top Tunes selection. Time to bring those back I’d say ;) Listen to PFOS on Spotify and/or for the Djs & Collectors : Grab the free download below.
Attention world! Here is the first release of a sweet team up by already established Soundcloud remixer/producer Sowlmate and his buddy Lu, who delivers the lovely vocals, to make “Hopeful Words” into an actual sweet heartfelt song, instead of a remix. Good to see young cats creating original music after the whole remix craze that went down in recent years and good to be asserted that some of them, like our buddy Sowlmate, are actually creating music that goes much deeper than any of their remixes ever could.
“Hopeful Words” has become a favourite of mine ever since “Max” aka Sowlmate played it for us the very first time. Some might say it sounds too much like Milky Chance and that whole style is ‘so last year’, but the truth is, Milky Chance had one good song (nothing else) and never followed up with anything. They simply failed to, same as all the dj cats that got signed to cater to these hippie-folk-pop-dance demands but ultimately never went anywhere except Felix (Jaehn) who made his own thing sound wise. Just telling from the many people that surround me, the demand and thirst for this kind of music has never ceased, but rather been pushed back because nobody has delivered the goods. Maybe Lu & Sowlmate can change things around and this EP is a good indicator that these 2 young cats just want to create honest music without any of the hypes & clichés that the ‘music industry’ and labels are pushing for.
“Hopeful Words” is a touching original tune with an incredibly infectious feel to make it a true winner for 2018 and put a smile on your face. I am glad and happy for the both of them that they didn’t listen to anyone from radio promoters, to managers, label execs and distributors, and instead delivered what music they felt right and what they love themselves. This is a golden rule in life – if you follow your heart and really do what you like with a positive mind-set and an open heart, you will always find enough people who enjoy the same things you do. This is how you create your grassroots and in time will grow with whatever you are doing. And in the case of Lu & Sowlmate it’s beautiful, honest music that doesn’t need hypes and styles but rather an open heart & mind.

Mindsighthas released his first track off of his upcoming EP ‘Adventure’, which is going to be released within this summer and we’re really looking forward to it. Josh told us, it’s going to be a story based EP and there will be vocals on some tracks too, which makes me even more excited. ‘Last Resort’ is state of the art future bass for your playlists. Have a great day out there!
Remember Goodie Mob? I think their last LP was released around 5 years ago. You know, back when Cee Lo Green already was that »isn’t that the guy from Gnarls Barkley?!« dude.
Anyway… Janelle Monae is KILLING it in the chorus. The video was released today and I think the album »Age Against The Machine« drops August 27th. Enjoy!
On December 6th The Roots thirteenth longplayer “undun” will hit the stores and online shops, here you have 2 videos they have shared so far, 2 more are about to be released within the next weeks
Introducing Childish Gambino would be very late, but although there is this thing called internet, there is almost no one in germany that plays this guys music, writes about it or even knows about him. There are certain reasons for that: # 1 his music is a bit hard to grasp at first, cause its something that me and my brother started calling ironic music some time ago, and its not even ironic its just that everything else is so bad that it feels like irony (when you are) making good music and being on point, when the biggest shit is david guetta. There is an undeniable certain pop culture zeitgeist about all of this and CGs music, probably derived from the modern internet lingo and modern well written faced-paced tv shows and the way the web rewired our brains. Even his name derrives from the online Wu-Tang Clanname generator . Trying to further describe his music would end up being just another chain of dreadful & meaningless adjectives. Let me just say its very post-hipster (lol).
Reason # 2 is there is a langual barrier, no matter how big the internet penetration is these days (there is a huge difference between written and spoken language), to grasp that humour and wordplay, and if you get it you might call it white boyish cause you have been conditioned for too long with “real” hiphop and the stereotype of how its supposed to sound. reason # 3 – childish gambino is donald glover, a witty and famous US comedian & script writer that plays Troy on Community, one of the funniest tv shows in recent years. The loveable characters Troy & Abed on this show have solely been responsible for a few net memes and a couple of über hilarious scenes. These are some highlights from season 1 (2009).
All that adds up to donald glover being a prominent person in the public eye which puts him more in the focus than the next guy doing the same music which even if a lot of people will disagree needs to be said when introducing him to an audience that has never heard of either him or his tv shows. Exceptionally, donald has for the last few years been constantly releasing his music online for free while staying busy playing Troy on Community or even receiving awards as the scriptwriter for (my former personal favourite) the Daily Show or for 30 rock, another one of these new fast paced comedy shows, that is not being aired over here or has even the slightest chance of being funny once its translated (lucky you in the Uk & Scandinavia). Ps sometimes i even play this hilarious song that he wrote for 30 rock at some ridiculous parties as a little break: Werewolf Barmitzvah (spooky, scary).
I guess all these reasons sum up why his music is not as talked about as it is in any english speaking country. Havent seen a clue of him on the french & italian blogs either. His first official Album “Camp” is about to drop and to the rest of the webs he is the talk of the town. The man can actually sing, besides having a ridiculous wordplay (i mean it) and you just have fun when listening to his tracks. Now let me say something which i say very rarely, this is actually a rapper that i do listen to, and i listen to his lyrics closely. This some positive stuff right here and to quote one of his lines its “so insane its an enemy of Batman”.
So let me sum it up for you in a few categories: the many remixes, his previous Eps & Lps as free downloads, a few of my favourite tunes, collabos and his most recent music which is now being officially released through Glassnote records, who are also responsible for Mumford & Sons, the Temper Trap, the 2nd Phoenix Lp and a few more which you probably know. So you see, for a hiphop artist, even label wise he is on some other ish. Enjoy

Since you know me and know that i only post stuff that i thoroughly like, if you want the latest on CG you better head over to his website (at end of post) or over to hypem, cause there seems to be a new tune or remix out every single day.
