Chromeo – When The Night Falls (Breakbot Remix)

Dancefloor superdarlings Breakbot deliver the funkiest, disco reminiscent remix of this Chromeo tune, that makes me instantly think of the happy days of disco – for some reason Chapelles Rick James & Charlie Murphy jump into my mind and somehow, this makes me miss the chapelle show even more. Even though only slightly different fom the original, this remix feels less processed and way more organic – no offense, Canadians. The Breakbot remix has some epic early 80ies cheesiness, makes the man in the wheelchair boogie and is a pure PAN Soul Midnight Affair and Solange Knowles dancing queen vocals have me hallucinating visions of some late 70ies discoteque packed with overdressed and overstyled Agneta Clones and Dirk Diggler lookalikes. French as only the french can – I Moustache you a question: ”  ‘Ow come vous etes zo fuenkie?”. Enjoy the dance

Aalyiah – Try Again (a rare approvable remix, that is not an insult to the original)

Nice & smooth Aaliyah remix by ITFW – really having a hard time these days, even attempting to listen to a remix of one of these classic soul/ hip hop tunes that get slaughtered regularly by too many bedroom djs and that whole awful mashup scene. No, Aaliyah and Daft Punk dont mix, morons! Anyway Try again has been and still is (like most of her stuff) all time classic material, minus the remixes, except that 45 king remix that was on the original 12″. This remix really lifts it up to a chill 2011 spirit, that is so much lacking these days, and is in complete contrast to the original – which was a global floor killer. Sounds a bit like the Lunice material, not as musical though, but compatible from educated hiphop to irony misunderstanding hipster.

Another gret find by chromemusic head contributor: Shawn C. White!

Nickodemus & Quantic – Mi Swing es Tropical feat. Hector Tempo Alomar (Zeb Reggae Remix)

Already a few years old, but this great version never crossed my radar until schowi played it at YUM YUM Berlin 2 weeks ago. Sets the mood right for our lovely summer dances yet to come

the Cults – debut album “Cults”

Their debut album “Cults” (sorry for the itunes link, LPs not on bandcamp), IMHO, delivered everything the first three songs promised it to be – here is a previous post to their 2010 songs. The Cults has to be the best band of 2010/11 so far and their mixture of aplocalyptic pop, soulful basslines and lofi rock has my media players working hard ever since i first heard them. If you havent heard of them already (what country doesnt have internet?) lets go jump into their music:

The music video to “Abducted” sets the mood and here are a few more of my favourites. One of the nicest tracks (especially when on the road) has to be “Bumper”, it just goes on & on w/o ever getting boring, incredible.

Cults – Bumper

Once again, actual tunes that i am playing, at big room gigs but nobody else is, except your occasional bar djs. This is just too good not to be shared with the entire world. Whats up people, make sure to put this on your tables, decks, sticks, seratos, traktors – whatever you are using. I have been to about 20 different spots this holiday weekend and have not a SINGLE time heard anything by this band, one of the hottest groups in the world right now. Back to my favourites:

One of their best tarcks has to be : You know what i mean

Metronomy – The Look

A few weeks ago Metronomy released their 3rd Album The English Riviera. Of all songs my personal favourite is The Look. The other song is an older one, but this superb remix by Discodeine is too good to be left out. One of the guys responsible for the remix is Pilooski, a name you should be familiar with, who appears to be one half of Discodeine.
