On June 22nd the Roots will relase their 11th album “How I Got Over”, and from what I heard so far it will be a pretty good one. For their first single they feature one of our all time YUM YUM favourites John Legend. Make sure to get their album via amazon, itunes etc. when it dropps
[audio:http://www.chromemusic.de/wp-content/uploads/2010/06/The-Roots-feat.-John-Legend-The-Fire.mp3]A good opportunity to blog some hip hop tunes that i have been digging recently. My buddies, the guys who ran the HIP HOP floor on NYE, which was legendary by the way, are moving into this once inna lifetime venue, to keep the party going. They seem to have a run and quality hiphop simply doesnt have enough spots in Munich. I am talking the Roots, Badu, Mark Ronson, Miike Snow, Mos Def, Common, Roots Manuva etc – you know the likes..- so no autotune on this side of the channel.
djs will be – D-Nice, Excellent & Reload1
Check the event on Facebook – i even like the last-minute flyer.

[audio:http://www.chromemusic.de/wp-content/uploads/2009/12/26-2009-Rap-Up-Radio-Rip.mp3]A new Common track is upon us, prod by K West and additional bedroom vocals by John Legend, who uses an interpolation of all time favourite Terence Trent D’arby – who was originally produced and rec in munich. Check out this tune and hats off to Common who, by being true to what he is doing, manages to stay his course and thus have recognition from all crowds and scenes. One of the few hip hoppers…
I hate the term but this truly is black music – thats what the Billy Holiday painting is supposed to indicate. Enjoy
[audio:http://www.chromemusic.de/wp-content/uploads/2009/11/Strange-Fruit-ft.-John-Legend.mp3]First offer in 2009 from Diplo and he managed to pull of a decent (haha) mix of John Legends & Andre 3000s otherwise rather unplayable track “Green Light”. Sounding very 80ies with a thick Miami Bass touch to it. I used to start out djing on Miami Bass so guess who is gonna have this tune on heavy rotation. Also much appreciated: the remixstarts out with the Andres vocals and the john Legend part gets a baile sounding break and beat-rework to make it listenable. Love John Legnds vocals and the original was one of his few tracks that simply didn’t cut it for me. Much appreciated Remix.

Nice cover versions and al right even if Sam Jackson cant sing a bit, but John Legend backs him up efficently. I guess i just love the original too much for me to not fall for the cover versions.
