Since the beginning of YUM YUM dates back over 5 years we thought it might be nice to share all our reworks and edits we made over the years with y’all – starting today. Not only you’ll get a ton of original work over the next weeks but also you’ll see how we developed over time and boy we came a long way.
I really don’t know a song to start with so I’ll just pick the one which came to my mind first. I can remember Chrome calling me and asked for an acapella to incorporate in an Al Green song. So I sent the vocals over and here is the resulting remix:

This song has been a favourite of mine ever since i heard it first, a long, long time ago and anyone who has known me since the age of 18 knows ho much i was into this music instead of the then popular charts – i was a huge Al Green fan and his take on soul music. For those of you who still have my old, old mixtapes you will surely recall this tune and i even remember sampling it for a tune on my headz/downbeat album (think early mo wax/ ninja tune etc) that i finished in 2001 but never released. Time to re-release that album digital – now thats a thought! A true sade classic got the Paul Nice remix treatment some time ago, or rather the Lummidee drums, but anyways this one been a favourite with us for a long, long time. I especially liked that he added that short audio clip in the beginning wih that guy singing a few lines from this tune, which is taken froma DVD before her final concert in LA. Gracious! Even though there is always been a huge dispute in Europe if she can sing or not, in the states she is being reckognized as a true soul sister. Check her old works and go for that truly soulful and uplifting spirit.
I remember back in the day when you used to ask the hip hop headz who was their favourite singer it would mostly be Sade and a few other exceptions, but everyone else was considered R&B. Not her! Her latest album wasn’t all that but Sade was a lot of inspiration especially in the 80ies.
So have fun with her classic tune: “Nothing can come between us” with a little additional drum edit by Paul Nice, taken from th bigegste 2003 riddem which name i have forgottten, as usual – lol. Enjoy
Big up to Cookin Soul, as usual they deliver the goods. Best remix of “Hello Brooklyn”to this date. A new reuse of Quincy Jones “Summer in the City”, there have been a huge stack of songs using that very same sample during the years, like Dj Spinna, the Roots, Black Moon, Nightmares on wax etc, etc – the list goes on and on, but i am really glad someone put it into such a nice context and made a real great vid to it. Enjoy this fine summer wine.
