MayerHawthorne – Do Over Mix – 2011

And here is his live set from his gig at LA’s Do Over party. I like the Do-over and their website but a few guys are trying to bring that party to Berlin, which makes no sense. The party lives because of LA, and the many music affiliated people visiting Cali to play some soul & proper hip hop sound and the crowd getting down to the sounds on a chill sunday afternoon. Well i heard the live sets (the one by rick medina & somebody else) and i must say i liked them a lot, but they are not surprising to any of us, since they are playing the “real” shit, which is what everybody does in germany, all that posh r&b laced pop rap never really caught on here, but its huge in the states (ginormous to be exact) and thats why this party differs in the states, but its different down here. Its kinda common to do that. Let Berlin do its own thing with the folks living there already instead of importing more stuff from the states.

Higher & Higher – Jackie Wilson (YUM YUM edit)

Your Love keeps lifting me higher & higher. Summers back, and while being in the mood for some sunny music i came across this Jackie Wilson classic, so i did this little re-edit this morning. will surely play it out the next time i hit the tables, but this weekend we all djs here at chromemusic have off, so have fun with this track and its summery, positive vibes, especially if your gf is called mary jane. Too bad stuff like this is not being played on the radio anymore these days. …hmm, not really, who cares about radio anyway? And thats exactly the reason why

Slipping into Darkness vs Get up Stand up

Another one of these great mashups that sounds right in my ears and works very well together. 2 of my all time favourite tunes blended together and they work well. He used PRT’s “Rock this funky joint” which already incorporated the sample of Wars “Slippin into Darkness” and then mixed it with the recently resurfaced Marley voacls that are actually untouchable, but this here works. Enjoy (he also added the Chapelle “Darkness” sample)

the Weeknd – Thursday (album)

Seems like the wait is over, after a couple of tunes and a mixtape that everyone went crazy for, the Weeknd (or better yet Abel Tesfaye) quickly became one of the talks of the year and definitely one of the most prominent new acts this year, making people anticipate the debut album even more, even though the Weeknd released a whole set of 2011 anthems so far. ‘Rolling Stone’, ‘The Morning’, ‘Wicked Games’, ‘High for this’ and almost any other tune released so far.

I had ‘Rolling Stone’ (which reappears on the new album) on my chill Firewall Mixtape which was a kind of best of my ipod selection and i really had a hard time deciding which one of their tunes to put on. File under r/firstworldproblems

Decide yourself if it can live up to its expectations / people on Fb are a bit complaining that the mixdown is low on the vocals in comparison to the “House of Balloons” mixtape / true. Download & Enjoy “Thursday” full album here.

Jay-z & Kayne “Otis” (Cookin Soul Rmx)

Isn’t it just hilarious how in times of mass unemployment, in times of complete change, where the world is in upheaval and turmoil is finally spreading to the filthy rich that leave the poor no room to breathe and live, and where becoming rich is no longer the ultimate goal, but is being despised by a new generation, Jay-z & Kanye do everything to show off their riches and appeal to the most illusional of desires? It is out of sync with the new mind state of the world.  A new generation, in a few years, is not gonna care if we have listened to this and so should we now, bc it is simply fun.

Like i said before, i don’t pay attention to rap vocals in general anymore so it doesn’t bother me – sounds like a fun tune and the remix is nice. Thats all folks. Let life live you instead of caring what others do.
