According to a lot of folks this seems to be the next big thing. Mac DeMarco’s “Brother” & “Passing out pieces”. The music is self described as lo-fi/slacker rock/jizz jazz. Hard not to like it, one of the comments said something along the lines of “It’s hard not to like Mac. He’s the dirty, cigarette-smoking garage rocker you’ve always wanted to be.” From his forthcoming release “Salad Days”, out April 1st.
Like i said Pharrell is gonna be all over again. And rightfully so. Happy is No 1 tune in the States right now, even though a year old, and that’s why i added our 6 months old remix to this months Top Tunes. And what i really like is that music in general is moving away from the depressed, aggressive, lifeless and sterile sounds of the past few years towards our YUM YUM sound. Styles and sounds move in cycles so we are right now getting back to the sound that YUM YUM started with. Funky, happy, empowering, uplifting music. On ChromeMusic i used to call this sound “Nice” so obviously loads of copycats came along left and right and started calling their mimickery nice, while they had no clue as to what that really meant (like watching a porn flick and calling it love). But why stop calling it what it is? It is nice music, when playing it you ‘nice up’ the dance, and some tunes are so nice you have to play them twice.
The first one is to follow your girl lead the way with her obscene, nonconformist aristocratic way of circle jerking her ankles or…
…or ladies follow your man and do what white folks do best: Jump around uncontrollably find out for yourselves that you can’t jump high, but you can do it more annoyingly often than a grashopper on cocaine, paired with the extra bonus skill to spill everyones drink simultaneously. And no matter which of those two white-people-exclusive-talents you happen to prefer by 1:02 i expect you to lose it and go ape shit to this brockout tune.
I am a complete sucker for D&B riddems and breaks and with some extra percussion, (off drums, tambs etc) this could have been even more of a brockout anthem. Anyways choooon! Horns please!

Pete who kind of invented a big slice of hip hop production in the real early 90s did a superb mixtape with Roy Ayres originals and Hip Hop Classics that exclusively use Roys timeless compositions as their sample source. Some classic Tribe, X-Clan, Brand Nubian and so forth. In 2014 where Mos & Kweli are seen as old school, i am truly thankful for such a great mix. I once met Pete in 1999 for some kind of interview i did for some mag and the man’s chill as hell. Big fan here of him and even more of Roy Ayres.
